About DirtWorks
A San Diego earthwork practice — built on plan reading, defensible numbers, and a clean finish.
Built where the office meets the dirt.
DirtWorks General Engineering operates in the seam between the estimator’s desk and the operator’s seat. We bid the way we build, and we build the way we model — same person, same standards, same numbers, all the way through.
We hold a California Class “A” General Engineering license (CSLB #1048702) and self-perform civil scope under CSI Divisions 31 (Earthwork), 32 (Site Improvements), and 33 (Utilities). When we’re consulting, we sit on the same side of the table as the GC. When we’re contracting, we bring our own fleet and our own model.
At a glance
Four principles, every project.
The standards that govern every document, every model, and every shift in the field — pulled directly from the DirtWorks Brand & Document Style Guide.
Defensible numbers, every time.
Quantities tie back to plan sheets. Unit costs tie back to a current cost book. Bid item lists tie back to CSI MasterFormat. If we can’t cite it, we don’t carry it.
The model is the contract.
We don’t hand off a 3D surface until it has been checked against the design plans, the survey control, and a printed cross-section at the tightest spot on the site.
Same person, end to end.
The estimator who builds the bid is the one running the field. No translation losses, no “the office said,” no surprises at the pre-con.
Disclose AI assistance. Discreetly.
When Claude (Cowork) or another AI helps draft a deliverable, the “powered by DirtWorks.AI” stamp is on it — small, muted, and out of the way. A human signs everything that leaves DirtWorks.
The Art & Science of Earthwork.
“The art is in the read — how a site moves, where the water wants to go, what the operator can hold. The science is in the numbers — bank, swell, shrinkage, mass haul, cycle time. We do both. Every job.”
